The LDOC committee will be accepting submissions of individual students & student groups’ acts through 11:59pm on SUNDAY, MARCH 31st. If you or your group plan on submitting, please see the guidelines below:

• Submissions must be in electronic form (i.e. video, mp3, link to a YouTube clip, link to a Soundcloud track, etc.)
• All submissions must be sent by 11:59pm on Sunday, March 31st to lastdayofclasses@gmail.com
• Acts can be whatever you want; get creative! Dancing, singing, DJing, beatboxing, playing an instrument, spoken word, rhythmic gymnastics…. If you’ve got a talent you want to share on LDOC, we want to see it!
• We’d prefer submissions to be no longer than 7 minutes, please. (*NOTE: The actual act may be longer, but this is only supposed to be a brief clip.)
• Nothing offensive or inappropriate.

After the LDOC committee has reviewed all the submissions, those acts who make it to the next round will be asked to audition in front of a live audience at the Dillo at 5:00pm on THURSDAY, APRIL 4. Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend! Final selections will then be made, and acts who will be performing on LDOC will be notified shortly thereafter. Interviews will be conducted on Saturday, February 16th and Sunday, February 17th, starting at 10AM.  Once you have submitted your application, you will be notified if you will continue to the interview process.

General Selection Criteria

• Enthusiasm about the Duke and the willingness to contribute to positive campus culture and development of the arts
• Prior DUU involvement is NOT necessary
• Must have strong communication skills and enjoy teamwork

Upper West is an up-and-coming hip-hop duo consisting of college sophomores Doug Gleicher and Jesse Fink. Watch the music video for their newest song released on August 21, “Summer Funk (Good Ol’ Days)”, below.

Radical Something is a group of California sun-rockers. They released their album No Sweat on February 26, and debuted at #6 on the iTunes Album Charts. The music video for their newest song, “Cutty Spot”, is below.

Major Attractions plans large-scale concerts and comedy acts. Past events included Blind Pilot, Aziz Ansari, Lupe Fiasco, Kid Cudi, Chiddy Bang and Matt & Kim. To get involved, contact Alex Shapanka, committee chair.

K.Flay is an up-and-coming female hip-hop artist and Stanford grad. Her latest EP, Eyes Shut, was released on January 30, 2012, and is available as a free download. Her latest music video, “Rest Your Mind” featuring Felix Cartal, is featured below.

Timeflies is a self-described “electro hip pop dub-something” duo. They released their first album last September, The Scotch Tape, and post a video series on YouTube called Timeflies Tuesday, which includes remixes, live colors, and freestyling. This July, they released a mixtape called Under the Influence, available here. Their stop at Duke is part of their The One Night Tour.

Joe College Concerts, a committee of the Duke University Union, plans two events every year: Heat Wave, a welcome-back event at the beginning of the year, and Old Duke, a throwback concert in the spring. Past artists for Heat Wave have included New Boyz, Walk the Moon, Anya Marina, Cute Is What We Aim For and Theophilus London.

Based on the Marvel comic series, The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner as a team of superheroes who unite to (what else?) save the world. Released in theaters in May, the film has earned over $1.4 billion in box offices worldwide. A sequel has been confirmed, to be released on May 1, 2015.

Freewater Presentations shows movies in Griffith Film Theater every weekend. Typically, independent films are shown on Thursday nights at 7 & 9:30pm and Sunday afternoons at 2pm; wide releases are shown on Friday nights at 7 & 9:30pm and Saturday nights at 7 & 10pm. Special midnight singalongs are shown on select Fridays at 11:59pm. All showings are FREE for students. Keep an eye out for our Fall 2012 calendar at www.duuke.org or www.duuke.org/movies. Paper copies of the calendar will be available on stands in the Bryan Center.

The First Big Weekend is an exciting new Duke tradition that welcomes undergraduate students back to campus in the fall with community-focused activities, events and performances.
